Under Construction and still growing!
When the Patagonia volunteer fire department was formed over 50yrs ago its origingal location was a single bay garage on Crawford drive that was owned by a resident and member. While it served its purpose the members soon realized the need for a "state of the art" station in which the members did not have to keep the fire going so the truck wouldn't freeze. That when the department bought a lot at 119 Superior street.
This lot was filled with, "mill ash", from surrounding mills to fill in the land. Construction then began on a two bay garage to house the equipment. This station was added onto in 1979 when a lounge, office and third bay was constructed. The mill ash however did not make for a good foundation and the two different parts of the building began to settle at a different rate. In 2005 the PVFD underwent a major construction project to stablized both parts of the building.
As you can see in this picture before our construction began the two seperate parts of the building began to seperate away from each other. After the construction this line is invisible and both parts of the building are level again.
Stablilizers:
In the photo on the right you can see one of the 18 stabilizers placed under our building that have now brought our building back to level again.
These are the devices they used to "lift" the building into place. The entire building was lifted at the same time and moved over 2 inches.
