Mass Casualty on Interstate 80:
Winter in Northwestern Pennsylvania:
Interstate 80 in December: During the winter months in Northwestern Pennsylvania the weather can change dramatcally in minutes. As evidence from this multiple care pile up on I-80 spanning several miles of both east and west bound lanes. Over 80 vehicles were involved in this crash and several neighboring fire departments. Engine 86-321 responded for fire suppression and extrication capabilities. In this photo you are looking at the west bound lane from the eastbound at the very eastern end of the accident.

The picture on the right shows fire officer 93-200 and various members in the background on the accident scene. Just minutes before the accident the roads and ground were clear of snow. This snow fell in 30minutes in near white out conditions.

Pictured on the right is a BMW in which the occupants required extrication from thier vehicle. Both occupant suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
